Soundproofing Solutions to Meet New Part E Building Regulations

Internal Wall / Timber Stud / 43 RwdB Application

Part EDownload PDF Data Sheet

Sound Reduction Performance
43 RwdB
Part E Acoustic Requirement
40 RwdB

Components and Fixing Data:

  • 1 x 12.5mm Plasterboard (screwed to)
  • 75mm x 50mm Timber Studs (at 600mm centres)
  • 52mm Acoustic Quilt (suspended in cavity)
  • 1 x 12.5mm Plasterboard (screwed to studs)
43dB acoustic wall

Substituting the wooden stud for 70mm metal 'C' studs will give the same (if not slightly better) 43 RwdB result.

Technical Data:

Mass per Unit Area:
Footprint Width:
Fire Protection:

22Kg/m²
100mm
30 minutes

Notes:

All edges must be well sealed with acoustic sealant.
The framework should be isolated from contact with the perimeter structure using our 10mm thick neoprene isolation strips.
The plasterboard should be kept around 5mm away from the surrounding structure and this gap sealed with acoustic sealant.
Plasterboard seams should not coincide.

Modifications:

Adding our Acoustic Membrane between 2 layers of 12.5mm plasterboard will improve the above system by between 8-10dB
Adding Resilient Bars to at least one side will improve the above system by around 3-5dB
